Cancer doesn’t just impact those diagnosed with it—it affects millions of lives, rippling outward to family members, friends, and communities. The true challenge of cancer lies not just in its physical presence, but in its invisible, relentless nature that touches everyone, everywhere. While the journey of battling cancer speaks volumes about human resilience, it’s also a story of overcoming fear, misconceptions, and unacknowledged battles.
For cancer warriors, their families, and healthcare professionals, this fight is never purely clinical. It’s a deeply personal, life-altering experience that requires not only medical intervention, but extraordinary mental fortitude, emotional strength, and an unwavering support system.
To honor this collective fight, Children Unbound Foundation (CUF), in collaboration with its CSR partner Salcomp Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd, observed World cancer Day at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC).
During the event, Mr. Arul Prabhu, Managing Director of Salcomp Manufacturing India Private Limited, expressed his deep appreciation for the initiative, stating that Salcomp is proud to support such impactful programs. He highlighted the importance of solutions like the HPV vaccine in the fight against cervical cancer, which continues to affect women globally.
Dr. Indu Aggarwal, Head of Preventive Oncology at RGCIRC, spoke passionately about the theme “United by Unique: 2025-2027,” emphasizing how every cancer journey is uniquely personal. She underscored that, beyond medical treatments, this journey requires mental strength, family support, and a positive environment. She also discussed the critical role of HPV vaccinations in preventing cervical cancer, which is the second most common cancer in India and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. Dr. Aggarwal stressed that regular screenings and vaccination are the best preventative measures against this deadly disease.
Dr. Seema Patni, General Surgeon and Medical Director of CUF, thanked all the partner organizations for their commitment to children’s health and wellbeing, acknowledging their collective efforts to raise awareness and bring vital resources to underserved communities. She shared how CUF’s work began with children in orphanages and has expanded to provide life-saving services like Pap Smear tests and HPV vaccinations to children in need, including those who are often forgotten or overlooked.
The day also saw the first dose of the HPV vaccine administered to nearly 150 children from diverse backgrounds, including those from blind schools, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and those in need of care and protection. The second dose will be given after six months, with a third dose provided for HIV/AIDS-affected children. Children from Naz Foundation, Salaam Balak Trust, National Association of Blind (NAB), Ashadeep Foundation and Udayan care participated in the event and also got vaccinated.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mr. D. S. Negi, CEO of RGCIRC, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rawal, Medical Director & Chief of Uro-Gynae Surgical Oncology, Mr. Ananga Narayan Das, CFO, Salcomp, Mr. Narender Yadav, CEO, Children Unbound Foundation and Mr. Vishwajeet Ghoshal, COO, Children Unbound Foundation among others. It was heartening to see so many representatives from various organizations, along with children and their families, come together to support this cause.
With over a million new cancer cases diagnosed annually in India, the importance of early detection cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, many of these cases could have been treated or prevented if caught early. Early intervention is critical in improving treatment outcomes, offering hope and better quality of life to cancer patients.
The event was a poignant reminder that, united in our unique experiences, we all play a role in the fight against cancer. Whether through awareness, research, or simply offering a helping hand, each action brings us closer to a world where cancer is not just fought, but conquered.
